We want to thank you once again for your support of our Chapter’s 2011 banquet, and provide you an update on where your PF dollars are being spent. Your contributions as sponsors, members, and banquet supporters helped us raise over $20,000 net proceeds this year. This will allow us to fulfill our financial obligation to the Central Montana (Lewistown) chapter for the 2011 payment on the Wolf Creek Contract for Deed. We are also in preliminary discussions with FWP and landowners in the Culbertson/Plentywood area to support FWPs efforts for shelterbelts and food plots on private land enrolled in the Block Management program.
Habitat improvements on the Wolf Creek property occurring in 2010 and scheduled for 2011 include planting 2 wildlife shelterbelts and several miles of two row travel lanes on the Wolf Creek property and two wildlife shelterbelts and several more miles of two row travel lanes on the adjacent Beckman Wildlife Management Area. Site preparation for these projects was completed in 2010. Approximately 150 acres of crested wheatgrass was converted to small grain production on the Wolf Creek property west of the pole barn. It was planted to winter wheat in the fall of 2010. All of this work was preformed by the Central Montana PF, lead by Craig Roberts.
Our chapter has struggled to meet our annual commitment to Central Montana to support paying down the debt on the Wolf Creek Contract for Deed. But the end is in sight. The Gallatin Valley Chapter’s investment in Coffee Creek and Wolf Creek, where hunters can unleash a dog and pursue upland birds on nearly 2800 acres of land open to public walk-in hunting, is an outstanding legacy. We’re proud to have had the opportunity to partner with Central Montana Chapter in this endeavor.
